The non-pregnancy

So my dad read my post about going to the doctor and sent me an e-mail asking if we are expecting another family member soon.

"No!" I wrote back. "Just a routine visit!"

Funny thing is... and this might gross some of you out, so you might want to stop reading... that I have a fibroid in my uterus - a benign growth - "the size of a three-month pregnancy," my doctor said.

I've had it for several years, and it keeps growing. We are just checking how fast it's growing, to see it it might cause a problem.

Today, I had to have an ultrasound again (I've had two before). The nurse told me the fibroid is "the size of a baby's head." So yes, it really does feel like I am pregnant. Ultrasounds, measurements.... all that's missing is a heartbeat, I guess.

Of course, having watched too many sci-fi movies, I'm thinking it could be an undeveloped identical twin or something else creepy...

"You poor thing," the nurse said. "You must be so uncomfortable!"

The truth is, I haven't felt a thing. I just hope a real pregnancy is this easy. :-)

I guess there is a good reason for it - but I have to ask anyway. Why don't the doctors remove it?

They could - and they might. But so far it hasn't caused any problems, and it's benign. I'll have to see what the doctor says about today's results (he will look at them some time next week).

If I want to become pregnant it might cause a problem - will there be enough room for a baby?

I'd prefer not to think about surgery, though. It seems very painful.

That's what I was thinking of, too. Now, I am pretty small and had full term twins, so I know the womb can expand a lot.

One should always think twice before surgery. But why must an operation be painful? Surely you'd sleep through it.

Hmm. Is there any way we can relate this to the George Wilber situation? Or maybe it belongs in the Arts Section.

Hm... Wilber... Perhaps I can call him and get some money out of him? I mean, now that we ruined his career and his life...

Oh, and about surgery... my doctor just said yesterday it would have to be like a C-section. I would be in the hospital for 2 days and then out of work for 4-6 weeks. Yikes!!!
